My Redeemer Lives!

“As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will rise up over the dust of this world        (Job 19:25).”

Almost all believers and unbelievers alike have heard the expression, “You have the patience of Job.” However, most people do not know why the saying came into being. Satan was in heaven, standing before God.

“Then Yahweh said to Satan, “Have you set your heart upon My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil.” And Satan answered    Yahweh and said, “Does Job fear God without cause? Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But send forth Your hand now and touch  all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face.”  (Job 1:8-11)

God allowed Satan to test Job’s faithfulness to Him and permitted him to do anything to him except    take his life. Satan took from Job all his wealth and the lives of all ten of his children and caused Job to be covered with boils from head to toe. Even Job’s wife told him to curse God and die. Three of his friends accuse him of being punished for some unconfessed sin in his    life.

Despite all this, Job refused to curse God and remained firm in his faith. Despite everything that transpired, the loss of his children, and everything he possessed, he never lost his love and faith in God. He declared, “I know my Redeemer lives.”

Every Christian declares that same truth: our Redeemer lives. Jesus Christ is our Redeemer. The only begotten Son of God lived a sinless life so that He would be the spotless lamb that took away the sins of the elect. He suffered, died, and was buried, and on the third day, Jesus rose from the dead. Every believer declares alongside of Job, “My Redeemer lives.”

Your shepherd,

Pastor Mark
