Examine yourself!

“Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them” -Romans 1:32

As I was looking at social media this past week, I saw a post on Facebook of someone who professed faith in Christ celebrating sin. Charles Spurgeon said the             following:

“If you can sin and not weep over it, you are an heir of Hell. If you can go into sin, and afterwards feel satisfied to have done so, you are on the   road to destruction. If there are no prickings of conscience, no inward torments, no bleeding wounds; if you have no throbs and heavings of      a bosom that cannot rest; if your soul never feels filled with wormwood and gall when you know you have done evil, you are no child of God.”

One of the evidences of your salvation is that when you sin you grieve over that sin. You are convicted over your failure to be obedient to the word of God. There is no peace or joy in your life. Oh, there may be pleasure for a time but there will never be contentment with that sin. The Holy Spirit that indwells you will never allow you  to be at peace while you continue in sin. If you claim the  title of Christian and brag about your sin, or even worse try to get others to sin, you need to examine yourself to see if you are truly a follower of Christ.

Every Christian will sin. We live in a fallen world and we live in bodies that fight against the spirit. The spirit is    willing but the flesh is weak . However, as you walk with Christ you should sin less as you mature in Him, as well    as repenting for those sins quickly.

Your shepherd,

Pastor Mark
