It is a trustworthy saying: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a good work.
1 Timothy 3:1
One of the greatest blessings Christ gives His church is godly leadership. The office of elder is not merely a position to be filled but a sacred calling entrusted to qualified men who shepherd God's flock through prayer, teaching, oversight, and personal example.
Today, our elders will begin the formal examination of Ian Hix and Bill Malaney as candidates for the office of elder at Grace Harvest Bible Church. This examination process is not intended to be a formality but a careful and biblical evaluation of their doctrine, character, spiritual maturity, and ability to shepherd God's people according to the qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
The church's responsibility is not merely to observe this process but to participate through prayer. Pray for Ian and Bill as they are examined. Pray for wisdom and discernment for the elders as we seek to determine God's will. Most importantly, pray that Christ would continue to provide faithful shepherds for His church.
The office of elder is a noble task because it reflects the ministry of the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. Elders are called to lead by serving, teach by example, and care for souls entrusted to their oversight. We are thankful for men who desire to serve in this capacity and are willing to submit themselves to the rigorous process of examination.
May God grant us wisdom, unity, and joy as we seek to follow His design for the leadership of His church.
Your Shepherd,
Pastor Mark
