Life Fades

A voice says, “Cry!” And I said, “What shall I cry?” All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the Lord blows on it; surely the people are grass.

Isaiah 40:6-7

There are approximately 7 billion people living in the world today, give or take a few 100 million. Unless the Lord returns every one of those 7 billion people will die. We are here for a season and then like the grass and flowers we will wither and fade away. No matter how important you think you are or how much the world needs you, we are only here for a blink of an eye in relation to eternity.

When I am gone 99.99% of the world’s population will not even know or care that I lived. However, for the lives I have touched how will they remember me? How will they remember you? The answer to that question depends on how you spend the time that God has given you. When God called you to be His everything changed. Instead of living for yourself God called you to put others before yourself (Philippians 2:3), deny yourself (Luke 9:23), not to think to highly of yourself (Romans 12:3), love sacrificially (I Corinthians 13), serve others (Matthew 20:26-27), and even lay your life down for others if necessary (John 15:13). Is this what your life looks like?

When it is all said and done no one will care how famous you were, how much money you made, or how successful you were at your job. What will matter is the lives that you touched, the people you loved, the people you served, and the gospel you shared.
