Paradise

And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

Luke 23:43

So what will we do when we get to heaven? I have heard some really strange ideas about what will go on in heaven. Following are some of the things I have actually heard people say at funerals about what we will be doing in heaven: drinking beer with our friends, playing golf, fishing, gardening in our flower beds, playing with our pets, playing bridge, playing baseball, become angels, watch over our loved ones and protect them, party, and I have even heard someone say that we would all get high with Jesus.

Do you notice what all of the above beliefs about what we will do in heaven have in common? It’s all about us. I don’t want you to think that I know everything about what we will be doing in Heaven but I do know what I will be doing. Worshiping God. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him (Revelation 22:3).

We are unable to fully serve God in this life due to sin, but in heaven "every curse will no longer be". We will not be under the curse of sin any longer, so everything we do will be worship in heaven. We will never be motivated by anything other than our love for God. Everything we do will be out of our love for God, untainted by our sin nature. So the next time someone tells you about what we will be doing in Heaven, ask yourself does it have to do with worshiping God the Father and His Son the Lamb?

Your Shepherd,

Pastor Mark
