The Walking Dead

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience- among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

Ephesians 2:1-3

Zombies are very popular in our culture today. There are movies about them and they even have their own television series. The sad truth is that zombies do exist but not the way you think. Men and women apart from God are spiritual zombies, the walking dead who do not know they are dead. They go through the motions of life, but they do not possess it.  

A person who is spiritually dead has no life by which he can respond to spiritual things, much less live a spiritual life. Those who do not know Christ as Lord and Savior follow the prince of the power of the air (Satan). But wait there is great news. Look at what the next two verses have to say, But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—  

The good news is that once we become believers in Jesus Christ and make Him lord of our lives we are no longer the walking dead. No more do we follow the “prince of the power of the air”. We are new creatures and all things are new because we now have the Holy Spirit indwelling in us. Now that you are no longer the walking dead live your live as one who has been re-born.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
