He is Near

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18

Have you ever suffered a broken heart from a lost love? I still remember how I felt when my heart was broken for the first time. I never thought I would get over it but of course, I did. We all have been hurt by someone we love and trusted. Some have been betrayed by those they thought never would. In this life, we all will suffer brokenheartedness and crushed spirits. The psalmist tells us that, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit”. How does He do that?

He does that for all those who confess His Son as Lord and Savior. He gives everyone who belongs to them a new heart. Spiritually speaking, our old hearts were black, ugly, evil and dead. The prophet Jeremiah said, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? (Jeremiah 17:9). Jesus said, But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.” (Matthew 15:18-20). Without Christ, we would continue to have hearts that were desperately sick. But praise God He gave us knew hearts that believe in Him. Because we have new hearts He is near to us when we are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit. Because you belong to Him, He is always near to you no matter what you are going through in this life.
